NOISE POLLUTION: LAGOS SHUTS QUILOX CLUB

  The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) on Saturday shut the popular Quilox Club on Ozumba Mbadwe Street, Victoria Island for its failure to comply with directives on organising events and not obtaining a sound control permit from the Agency. The enforcement exercise, which was jointly carried out by the officials of the agency and the Lagos State Task Force, was also a result of several complaints made by residents in the area.  Reacting to the exercise, General Manager, LASEPA, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe disclosed that the agency received several distress calls with video evidence from concerned neighbours to support their claims on alleged environmental nuisances being perpetrated by the club without consideration to the rights of other residents to a peaceful environment.   “To avert a situation like this, we recently held a stakeholders’ parley with the Owners/Chief Executive Officers of night clubs in the State to address the issue of noise pollution, particularly durin

Yahoo School Proprietor, 13 'Students' in EFCC’s Net in Benin

  Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC today, December 15, 2022 arrested Ese Isaiah, proprietor of a ‘Yahoo School’, and 13 of his 'students'. The suspects are Alex Aimuanosa, Jeremiah Umoru, Destiny Aghayere,  Christian  Oghenekevwe,  Wisdom Christopher, Daniel Matthew and Gift Patrick Others are Lucky Paul,  Godspower Osatuohien, Edafe Isaiah, John Elvis, Favour Oseghale and Osas Egho They were arrested in Benin City based on intelligence on their alleged activities.  Items recovered from the suspects include mobile phones, laptops and a Lexus ES350.  They have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are concluded.

NDLEA intercepts Brazil returnee with parcels of cocaine

  Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, parcels of cocaine concealed in different parts of a travel bag brought into the country from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight by a Brazil returnee, Nwadinobi Uchemadu. A statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi revealed that Uchemadu was arrested last Monday at the Lagos airport during inward clearance of passengers on the Qatar airways flight following the discovery of three parcels of cocaine weighing 2.7 kilogrammes factory sealed in parts of his travel bag.  Babafemi said at the SAHCO export shed of the airport same day, NDLEA operatives equally intercepted cans of powdered milk, baby food and beverages used to conceal 3.4 kilogrammes of cannabis going to Dubai, UAE, adding that a freight agent, Ewelike Cyril who presented the consignment for export was subsequently arrested.  He further
