- Urges grassroots media aides to guard against fake news

- As guest lecturer, Ustadh Sa'eed Salman encourages Muslims to be sincere in their purpose during Ramadan



The association of Chief Press Secretaries (CPS) for executive chairmen across the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State held her annual Ramadan lecture on Thursday.


The event which was held at Ifako-ijaiye Local Government Area had in attendance, executive chairman of the LGA, Hon. Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, among other invited guests.


Before dwelling on the topic of the day, tagged: 'Social Media as a Tool in a Dwindling Society', the council mayor advised CPS as a group, to maximize the platforms of local government Chairmen and project themselves with it.


"You need to let people know you while you project our works," he said.


On his position concerning the use of social media, Hon. Hamzat encouraged grassroots media aides to embark on 'Fact-Check' of news that were being disseminated on various social media platforms.


According to him: "It is your duty to cross check any news event about our ruling government and on socio-economic issues which may degenerate into chaos.


"It is part of your duties to ensure that unity and peace of the country is attained all the time," he posited.


On the importance of Ramadan, Hon. Prince Hamzat said Muslims must uphold the principles of the holy month in order to remain pious.


He also commended Conference 57 CPS as a body, for organizing the Ramadan lecture.


While delivering his speech on the topic; Maximizing opportunities in the month of Ramadan, the guest lecturer, Ustadh Sa'eed Salman emphasizes on the importance of sincerity of purpose during Ramadan.


He posited that the first step in the holy month of Ramadan is sincerity of purpose.


On the aspect of being righteous beyond the holy month, the Deputy Chief Imam and Principal Assistant Registrar from Yaba College of Technology, said it was important to strike a balance between spirituality and materialism.


He added: "Islam is the only religion that is commiserate with your deeds on earth and hereafter." 


He urged those in attendance to maintain a balance between the two extremes.


Among other points he raised includes the need for Muslims to be knowledgeable on the teachings from the  holy book; Qu'ran, that the month of ramadan abhors laziness, and Muslim worshippers should see prayer as divine, and one of the important factors to success.


While responding to questions from journalist about the roles of CPS towards 2023 elections, Chairman of Conference 57 CPS, Ayeyemi Ayodele, urged members of CPS and Nigerians to continue in the projection of Asiwaju 'Bola Ahmed Tinubu's  brand.


"Let's support Asiwaju 2023 ambition, mission and vision.


"For as we all know Asiwaju'Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be a trailblazer, pathfinder, a nation builder, a moulder and a unifier, hence part of our task as CPS is to ensure that the mandate of APC national leader is realized," he submitted.
