Alimosho: Ex-council chief picks Assembly form

Former Chairman of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area of Lagos Abiodun Mafe has picked Nomination Form to vie for Lagos State House of Assembly in Alimosho 01 Constituency.

Banking on his sterling performance at the council level, Mafe is seeking to consolidate on the gains made to improving infrastructure and providing social amenities to the people of Alimosho.

He had an impressive record of mobilising the grassroot for development.

The aspirant was a community leader in the axis for over 25 years before venturing into politics.

He had served Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area as the Vice Chairman and Executive Secretary capacities before leading the council as chairman for two terms.

During the period, several roads and markets were constructed. Mafe upgraded four moribund primary health care centres in the council with modern equipment to serve various communities.

He also constructed some schools.

The highlight of his projects in the council is the construction of Rauf Aregbesola Medical Centre, which ordinarily could pass for a general hospital.

While commissioning the project, Minister of Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who was then Osun State Governor, described the health centre as a monumental edifice.

According to Aregbesola, some state governors could not boast of building such edifice in their states.

Former Lagos State Governor, now Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola, hailed Mafe for bequeathing Alimosho with such an edifice.

Fashola said millions of people would benefit and it would reduce rush to the general hospitals.

After his tenure as the council chairman, Mafe has remained a committed and loyal party member, mobilising the grass root to ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in all elections.

He has also been called upon to serve the party in various capacities including membership of the National APC Registration Supervisory Committee and had a stint with Babajide Sanwo-Olu Campaign Organisation.

Residents of Alimosho were happy seeing posters of Mafe on the streets.

They called on the party leaders to give him the ticket to continue from where he stops.

Mrs Folasade Adetola described Mafe as a good administrator, who understands the needs of the people.

“This coming election is about presenting those with good track records, those who are marketable, those who are well-grounded and vastly connected with the grassroots. It is a fresh election where most incumbents are not running, hence, trusted hands must be put forward by our party.

“The legacies of Mafe in Mosan Okunola LCDA speak volume and his experiences at state and national level for serving our party, the All progressives congress is another added advantage. Thereby, his venturing into politics is simply about service to the people. In whatever capacity, Mafe is okay to continue serving his people,” she said.
