Lagos Gives Recognition To Two Transport Unions
As RTEAN Removes Jafo as Chairman
The Lagos state government has for the upteenth time disclosed that there are two recognized unions in the transportation sector in the state and that other unions should affiliate with any of the two
Information has it that the recognition was as a result of the attempt by some erstwhile leaders of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to have the motorcycle union stand as a separate Union, like the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW)
It was reliably gathered that RTEAN has equally removed the Oniba,Oba Jafo as the chairman of the union in the state, fuelling speculation that he has teamed up with those who lost in the supremacy battle in the NURTW to want a control over motorcycle union in the state
With the recognition given the duo of NURTW and RTEAN,there seems to be relative peace as the motorcycle unions, have had to obey and stay under the umbrella of the NURTW and RTEAN,a move applauded by stakeholders in the industry
Cross section of NURTW members spoken with on Wednesday acknowledged the peaceful coexistence in the union in the state since assumption of office of Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle a.k.a SEGO as chairman
They posited that unlike in the past when mutual mistrust existed, now members are happy and excited at the turn of event as they go about their duties without hassles
They commended Sego for his calmness and commitment to members welfare ,stressing that his few months in office has recorded significant changes and development
