CDHR CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF TAIWO HAZZAN SOWETO BY LAGOS STATE POLICE




The Committee for the Defence of Human Right Lagos State Branch has demanded the  Immediate and unconditional  Release of Comrade Hassan Taiwo Soweto and Others protesters who were out there exercising their fundamental rights of association and expression to complaint and solidarise with all communities facing forceful eviction and displacement in Lagos State led by state machineries that are now using official and State power to grabb land in Lagos metropolis. 

The CDHR in a press release issued on Wednesday by the chairman of Lagos Branch,Comrade Adewale Ojo described Comrade Hassan Taiwo Soweto, as a leading member of the Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM) and spokesperson of #EndBadGovernance Movement Lagos with other protesters was arrested today at the Lagos State House of Assembly after the police teargas and forcefully disperse them from the peaceful protest.


This was at a protest against the unjust demolition and forced Eviction of Makoko, Oworonshoki, Owode Onirin and other poor masses community in Lagos. 

The CDHR hereby calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade TAIWO HAZZAN ( aka ) Soweto and other protesters.

Tafa Sego Escapes Assassination Attempt

The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday  after six armed men reportedly stormed his residence in Surulere, Lagos, with the intent to kill him.  Fortunately, he was not at home at the time of the attack. Sources revealed that the assailants arrived his residence at Gbadamosi Close, Surulere, around 11pm on Saturday night .  Upon arrival, they encountered only the security guard, whom they tied up before ransacking the entire house in search of the union leader. It was gathered that Alhaji Tafa Sego had earlier left for an event with a few of his associates who had visited him earlier in the day. The invasion sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood, with residents expressing fear and concern over the unprecedented incident. Breaking News: FG Suspends Tax Reform Guidelines Pending Official Gazette

The federal government has paused issuing guidelines for the implementation of Nigeria’s new tax laws amid uncertainty over the final approved version, Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Tax Reform Committee, disclosed. Speaking in Lagos during the 2026 Economic Outlook event hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Oyedele revealed he instructed the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and the Joint Revenue Board (JRB) to hold off on implementing the laws until clarity is achieved. Concerns arose because the documents circulating may not reflect the definitive version of the laws.  Oyedele’s team attempted to purchase official printed copies from the government printer but was told by staff that all copies had been taken by the National Assembly, which restricted public access until their review is complete.
