Aftermath of Abuja Meeting: Gov Fubara dissolves State Executive Council
In a new twist to the ongoing resolution of the political logjam in oil rich state of Rivers,Governor Siminalayi Fubara has disolved the State Executive Council, indicating a significant change in his administration. This decision aims to realign the government and enhance the efficiency of the state’s civil service.
Information has it that Gov Fubara on his return to Port Harcourt,the capital of the state on Tuesday summoned an emergency valedictory date Executive Council meeting, where he announced the dissolution,while he directed that the commissioners and special Advisers should immediately hand over to the most senior civil servants in the ministries and agencies..
There are indications that the move forms part of the agreement reached at the peace meeting conveyed by the president to resolve the political crisis.
The Governor it was reported will present another set of members of state executive council ,that will be screened by the Legislators in accordance with the constitutional requirements
Following the cabinet dissolution, the governor has promoted five senior civil servants to the position of Permanent Secretary within the Rivers State Civil Service.
The newly appointed officials are:
• Dr. Wachukwu Vincent Worgu
• Eke Cordelia Uwuma
• Ogboma Ifeanyi Anthony
• Dr. Jim-Jaja Mina Gogo
• Uzor Henry
The governor is set to officially swear in the new Permanent Secretaries on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
This move is largely viewed as an effort to strengthen the foundation of the state’s bureaucracy while preparations are made for the establishment of a new cabinet.
